For whatever reasons -- one is obviously because of the god Janus -- the first day of the year wears a symbolic light of optimism and renewal. It is a day that many societies have cordoned off as the day that starts it all. As per an earlier entry here, I've made some resolutions that I hope will make a difference to me and to others.
On this day, I cannot help but peruse the blogosphere. Today, I have done quite a bit of reading about the upcoming three-hundred and sixty-six days. As it is always the case, it doesn't matter what anyone prognosticates about the upcoming year. What matters is whether this one will be better than the last. Whether on a personal level or as a collective whole.
One-hundred years from now, you and I will not matter. What I seem to think and obsess about sometimes, however, is how the future will judge today's society. How everyone acted together and collectively will be the barometer of future judgement. I'm not very optimistic about a favorable future opinion. I'm confident that this post-industrial era will be judged very critically.
Of all the items about the New Year that I've read today, one really stood out. It stipulated that if one were to consider themselves as a time traveler, you yourself are responsible for your future.
I wish to be in a future of my choosing someday, away from all the idiots.
Happy New Year, assholes.
